How to install Chrome Nano in Quick Rephrase Settings

On-device Nano is the default engine. Here’s how to get it Ready.

Steps

  1. Open Quick Rephrase → Settings (or right-click the extension icon → Options).
  2. Find On-device (Chrome Nano).
  3. If you see Install needed or Needs activation, click Install Chrome Nano / Activate Chrome Nano.
  4. Keep the Settings tab open until status shows Ready.

Downloads need a normal user click in Settings (Chrome’s Prompt API may require user activation).

Status meanings

  • Ready — good to rephrase on-device.
  • Install needed / Downloading — finish the button flow; watch progress.
  • Not available — this Chrome/device can’t run Nano right now. Use WebLLM or Cloud, or enable on-device AI in Chrome and tap Refresh status.

After install

Select text on a normal webpage → right-click → Quick Rephrase → pick a tone. The popover should show On-device.
